Instant Oats and Semolina Idlis for light and fresh breakfasts

Innovating for school tiffins can be a task . If you ever forget to ferment the rice or millets for your morning idlis , don't worry , it just takes a few minutes to prepare light and fluffy healthy idlis for delicious breakfasts for your little ones .




Ingredients: Makes 15-16 idlis


1 cup oats four

1/2 cup semolina

1 no. carrot , grated

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 /2 cup curd or 1/2 tsp lemon juice

1 tsp mustard seeds

1/1/2 tsp chopped ginger

8-10 curry leaves

oil for tempering

salt to taste



To prepare:

  1. Roast the Semolina for 2-4 minutes on medium flame , stir it often.

  2. Then add the oats flour to this and roast for another 6-7 minutes.

  3. Take out and keep to cool.

  4. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds . When they start to pop, add the ginger and chopped curry leaves. Keep aside .

  5. Add the grated carrot along with the above temper and mix it very well.

  6. Add the yoghurt or lemon juice

  7. Put water in the oats and semolina mix to make a batter and let it sit for 5-6 minutes.

  8. Meanwhile grease the idli moulds and get the steamer ready .

  9. Add salt to taste and baking soda and stir it quickly and see that its mixed very well.

  10. Pour the batter into the idli moulds and steam for around 15 minutes. You many check if they are cooked.

  11. Remove them with a spoon dipped in hot water and serve hot with Sambhar and coconut chutney .
